GREAT DAY - Pathfinder Fair & Adventurer Family Fun Day

5/11/2012

The Pathfinder Fair and Adventurer Family Fun Day was a flurry of activities. There were 14 Pathfinder clubs and 11 Adventurer clubs attending. We met in a 200,000 square foot warehouse, which is currently transitioning between industrial tenets. Between Pathfinders, Adventurers, club staff, parents, and visitors, there were more than 400 persons in attendance.

After registration, checking in pine cars for the derby, setting up display booths, and guessing how many jellybeans in a jar, there was a parade into the opening ceremonies. Pastor Steve Haley, conference president, gave a 5-minute devotion and Pastor Ken Wetmore, new youth director, opened the day’s activities.

Pathfinder activities included:  Shuttle Run relays, Ice Flow relay (tying knots to rescue a person “on the ice”), Fire & Soap Boil (building a fire and heating water/soap mixture until it boils over), Drill Team competitions, and a Pathfinder Drill Down.

Adventurer activities included:  Babar the Lion (who greeted and posed for pictures with kids), prayer rock painting, obstacle course, petting zoo, decorate your own hat, decorate your own backpack, Adventurer bingo, face tattoos, hula hoops, geology, learn to draw Babar, and throw the ball into the lions mouth.

There were sno-cones, popcorn, pizza, sodas, Babar Lion cake pops, veggie cups, bottled water and more, were available for lunch and throughout the afternoon.

Just before the Awards Ceremony, the final event was a Peanut Drop where a local pilot flew a small airplane over the field outside the warehouse and dropped pounds of  peanuts with a few colored peanuts worth prizes. Prizes for the day included trophies, ribbons, jellybean jar with trading pins included, ICC hats, ICC T-shirts, water bottles, a prized KYTN Pathfinder jacket, and two separate free weeks at Indian Creek Camp. It was a great day!
