Pathfinders Sing Scripture Songs

1/9/2013

The Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinder Club, an organization which encourages young people to become well-rounded disciples of Jesus, requires its youth to memorize scriptures including verses about praise, prayer, salvation, doctrine, behavior, promises, relationships, and more.

The Fannin County Mountain Creek Pathfinders learned Trilogy Scripture Songs so these scriptures would be forever in their hearts. Because this method of memorization has been so easy and enjoyable, they desired to share these songs with Pathfinders and people everywhere.

This CD features the Fannin County Mountain Creek Pathfinders singing scriptures including Psalm 34:1-4, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Psalm 103:1-4, and more. It’s the perfect tool for helping your Pathfinders memorize scripture!

This is a great example of how to keep God's word hidden in our hearts! If you would like to purchase this CD, please visit AdventSource.

Story - Little Corporal

9/4/2012

"Never pull each other to pieces...If you are judging your brother and setting yourself up in place of God's Law...How can you then be so silly as to imagine that you are your neighbor's judge?"  James 4:11,12 Phillips Translation
Only small minds delight in criticism. Satan cheers when he hears Christians finding fault with other, for he knows this brings discouragement, envy and strife. A beautiful little animal, often criticized and judged to be all bad because he uses a powerful, unpleasant odor for defense, proves that this is not true, even about a skunk.
One spring evening a family was in their cabin eating supper, when through the open door stepped a black and white animal. Remembering his bad reputation, they hesitated but finally offered him some milk. Setting a bowl on the table, they pulled up a chair. Their guest, whom they named Little Corporal, accepted the invitation.
From that time on he came for dinner frequently, always displaying the best of manners. if the door was closed, he'd thump his feet or utter little noises. Then one day he disappeared. How they missed his evening visits! Weeks later they heard the familiar thump. opening the door, they found he had brought Mrs. Corporal and six babies!
Assuring his timid family, he brought them into the cabin. Mrs. Corporal, worried, began thumping the floor and standing on her front feet. The little ones followed. Fearfully, the family waited, but their bad thoughts about skunks were groundless. Little Corporal climbed up on the chair and pounded the table. The family quickly put bowls of milk on the floor for Mom and the kids while Dad ate in style.
Frequently the skunks came to visit and enjoy their milk. Not once did they break the confidence of friendship. These friendly animals had no desire to leave their sickening odor in the family's home. When autumn came the little skunk family left.
Don't condemn others. It is not for us to criticize or speak evil of anyone. Remember the friendly skunk family when you are tempted to believe the worst about others. Never spread gossip or hearsay. We have no right to judge anyone.

Your First Two Years in Ministry

7/9/2012

This book by Doug Fields offers some golden nuggets for those just entering into the youth ministry field. (They have been adapted specifically to Pathfinder Ministry.) Here they are:

·  Relationships are the key to a healthy ministry.
·  A healthy 'pathfinder' ministry reaches not only the 'pathfinder', but the entire family.
·  You WILL encounter conflict, so learn some effective tools of conflict management.
·  Don't be a Lone Ranger 'pathfinder director'. A team of leaders is essential.
·  Don't forget the value of student leadership in your ministry.
·  Continually evaluate what you're doing. Remember what worked in one location or church may not work in another...and vice versa.
· Don't come in and change everything at once.
· Be gentle with yourself - the first two years in a ministry are very difficult.

Master Guide Seminars

6/26/2012

On June 16, a group of 26 Pathfinder leaders and a school chaplain gathered to participate in the Master Guide Training and Continuing Education. Seven participants are new to Pathfindering and working on their Master Guide requirements. Four Pathfinder specialists, who are with the Southern Union and also members of the NAD Pathfinder Committee, presented the various topics, i.e. Leadership Skills, Communication Skills, Creativity & Resource Development, and Children & Youth Evangelism. Also, the participants learned of new NAD Pathfinder policies that will be in effect soon and insights into the programming planned for the Southern Union Camporee next October. ...Hopefully, we can have other types of training sessions in various parts of the conference in the future.

GREAT DAY - Pathfinder Fair & Adventurer Family Fun Day

5/11/2012

The Pathfinder Fair and Adventurer Family Fun Day was a flurry of activities. There were 14 Pathfinder clubs and 11 Adventurer clubs attending. We met in a 200,000 square foot warehouse, which is currently transitioning between industrial tenets. Between Pathfinders, Adventurers, club staff, parents, and visitors, there were more than 400 persons in attendance.

After registration, checking in pine cars for the derby, setting up display booths, and guessing how many jellybeans in a jar, there was a parade into the opening ceremonies. Pastor Steve Haley, conference president, gave a 5-minute devotion and Pastor Ken Wetmore, new youth director, opened the day’s activities.

Pathfinder activities included:  Shuttle Run relays, Ice Flow relay (tying knots to rescue a person “on the ice”), Fire & Soap Boil (building a fire and heating water/soap mixture until it boils over), Drill Team competitions, and a Pathfinder Drill Down.

Adventurer activities included:  Babar the Lion (who greeted and posed for pictures with kids), prayer rock painting, obstacle course, petting zoo, decorate your own hat, decorate your own backpack, Adventurer bingo, face tattoos, hula hoops, geology, learn to draw Babar, and throw the ball into the lions mouth.

There were sno-cones, popcorn, pizza, sodas, Babar Lion cake pops, veggie cups, bottled water and more, were available for lunch and throughout the afternoon.

Just before the Awards Ceremony, the final event was a Peanut Drop where a local pilot flew a small airplane over the field outside the warehouse and dropped pounds of  peanuts with a few colored peanuts worth prizes. Prizes for the day included trophies, ribbons, jellybean jar with trading pins included, ICC hats, ICC T-shirts, water bottles, a prized KYTN Pathfinder jacket, and two separate free weeks at Indian Creek Camp. It was a great day!
