MASTER GUIDE REQUIREMENTS
for Adventurers and Pathfinder Ministries
North American Division, Revised version 2014

NOTES: All Master Guide candidates must compile a portfolio. (see bottom of pg.) 
   
   I. Prerequisites:
  1. Be a baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  2. Have a written recommendation from your local church board, stating that the candidate is in regular standing.
  3. Be at least 16 years of age to start the Master Guide Leadership course and at least 18 years of age at completion.
  4. Have a completed Basic Staff Training Certification and been involved for a minimum of one year in one of the following ministries.
         a. Adventurers Ministries
         b. Pathfinders Ministries
* It will be helpful for a Master Guide in training to have exposure to both ministries, Adventurers and Pathfinders.  

II. Spiritual Development:

1. Read or Listen to the book Steps to Christ or Steps to Christ Youth Edition and submit a one-page response focusing on the benefits of your reading.
2. Complete the devotional guide “Encounter Series I, Christ the Way”, or complete another year long Bible reading plan that covers the four Gospels and read the Desire of the Ages or Humble Hero.
3. Do one of the following:
   a. Keep a devotional journal for at least four weeks, summarizing what you learned in your devotional time and outlining how you are growing in your faith.
   b. Complete the Steps to Discipleship Personal Spirituality Curriculum.
4. Earn the Pathfinder Evangelism Award.
5. Prepare a two paragraph summary on each one of the 28 Fundamental Beliefs
6. Develop and present four of the following beliefs. Use of creative media is encouraged.
   a. Creation
   b. The Experience of Salvation
   c. Growing in Christ
   d. The Remnant and Its Mission
   e. Baptism
   f. Spiritual Gifts and Ministries
   g. The Gift of Prophecy
   h. The Sabbath
   i. Christ’s Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary
   j. The Second Coming of Christ
   k. Death and Resurrection
7. Enhance knowledge of Church Heritage by completing the following:
   a. Earn the Adventist Heritage Honor.
   b. Read a book about SDA youth ministry such as:
       i.   The Pathfinder Story by Robert Holbrook.
       ii.   We are the Pathfinders Strong: The First Fifty Years by Willie Oliver with Patricia Humphrey
       iii.  Another book that is approved by your conference Youth, Pathfinder or Adventurer Director, or their designated Master Guide representative.
8. Read a book about church heritage such as:
   a. Anticipating the Advent by George Knight.
   b. Tell It to the World by Mervyn Maxwell
   c. Light Bearers to the Remnant by Richard W Schwarz and Floyd Greenleaf
   d. The Church Heritage Manual produced by the General Conference Youth Department.
   e. Another book that is approved by your conference Youth, Pathfinder or Adventurer Director, or their designated Master Guide representative.
9. Attend a Seminar, or complete a 2 page (minimum) research paper about a standard temperament analysis program and complete the affiliated temperament inventory.  

III. Skills Development:

1. Attend and complete a seminar in each of the following ten subjects: (Each seminar must be at least 75 minutes long)
   LEAD 106 How to be a Christian Leader & Leadership Skills
   LEAD 213 Vision, Mission and Motivation
   CMME 100 Communication Theory and Listening Skills
   CMME 104 Practical Communication Practices
   EDUC 103 Understanding Teaching and Learning Styles
   LEAD 160 Understanding and using creativity
   RELI 112 How to Prepare Effective Creative Worships
   OUTR 200 Principles of Youth and Children’s Evangelism
   OUTR 100 How to Lead a Child to Christ
   SPRT 105 Understanding your Spiritual Gifts
2. Attend a seminar on Risk Management on Pathfinder and Adventurer ministries.
3. Attend a seminar on Child Abuse Prevention.
4. Have or earn the following honors:
   a. Christian Storytelling
   b. Camping Skills I-IV
   c. Basic Drilling and Marching
   d. Knots
5. Earn two additional honors not previously earned: one from the list below and a skill level 2 or 3 honor from a list provided by your local conference*.
   a. Crisis Intervention*
   b. Nutrition*
   c. Flags*
6. Hold a current First Aid & Safety certificate or its equivalent. (Certified Instructor Required)
7. Supervise participants through either the Adventurer Curriculum or Pathfinder Investiture Achievement, or teach a Sabbath School class for children ages 6-15, or its equivalent for at least one year. (Candidates under 18 must have a supervising adult)

  IV. Child Development:
  1. Read or listen to the book Education and submit a one page response focusing on the benefits of your reading.
  2. Read or listen to either Child Guidance or Messages to Young People and submit a one page response focusing on the benefits of your reading.
  3. Attend one seminar dealing with child development (PYSO) relating to the age of your primary ministry group.
  4. Observe for a period of two (2) hours a group of Adventurers or Pathfinders and write a reflection on their interaction with each other and with the staff.
  5. Attend a seminar on Discipline.

V. Leadership Development:

1. Read a current book about “Leadership Skill Development” such as:
   a. Positive Church in a Negative World by John Arrias
   b. Take the Risk by Ben Carson
   c. Ellen White on Leadership by Cindy Tutsh
   d. Help! I’m being Followed by Clinton Valleyn
   e, Another book that is approved by your conference Youth, Pathfinder or Adventurer Director, or their designated Master Guide representative.
2. Demonstrate your leadership skills by doing the following:
   a. Develop and conduct three creative worships for children and/or teenagers.
   b. Participate in a leadership role with your local church children’s/youth group in a Conference sponsored event.
   c. Teach three Adventurer Awards or two Pathfinder Honors.
   d. Assist in planning and leading a field trip for a group of Adventurers grades, 1-4, Pathfinders grades, 5-12, or Sabbath School class, ages 6-15. 
   e. Be an active Adventurer, Pathfinders, or Sabbath School staff member for at least one year and attend at least 75% of all staff meetings.
3. Write personal goals that you would like to accomplish in your ministry.
4. Identify three current goals in your life, at least one of which is spiritually oriented, and list three goals or objects for each.

VI. Fitness Lifestyle Development
1. Participate in a personal Physical fitness plan by completing one of the following:
    a. A personal physical fitness program of your choice based on a physical fitness book of your choice or a workout program in consultation with your local supervising Master Guide or certified instructor. 
   b. A school physical fitness program.
   c. The physical components of the AY Silver Award. If you already have the AY Silver award then complete the physical fitness components of the AY Gold Award.

VII. Documentation
  1.  The Master Guide curriculum must be completed in a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years.
  2. Compile a portfolio* documenting all of your work related to completing your Master Guide curriculum. (3-ring notebook accepted; Binder index below)
  3. Curriculum completion is under the supervision of the conference Youth, Pathfinder or Adventurer Director, or their designated Master Guide representative.
NOTES:
   1. Seminars should be of at least 75 minutes in length. All seminar facilitators must be approved by the Conference Youth Director/or the church pastor.

Requisitos de Guía Mayor
para los Ministerios de Aventureros y Conquistadores
Division Norte Americana Revisados en Septiembre 2014

I. Pre-requisitos:
  1. Ser miembro bautizado de la Iglesia Adventista del séptimo día.
  2. Tener una recomendación escrita de la junta de iglesia local, declarando que el candidato está en situación regular.
  3. Tener al menos 16 años de edad al empezar el curso de liderazgo de Guías Mayores y por lo menos 18 años de edad al completar los requisitos.
  4. Debe tener certificado que completo un Curso Básico de Entrenamiento de Personal y haber participado durante un mínimo de un año en uno de los siguientes ministerios:
    1. Ministerios de Aventurero
    2. Ministerios de Conquistadores
Sería de ayuda para un Guía Mayor en formación tener exposición a ambos ministerios, Aventureros y Conquistadores.

II. Desarrollo Espiritual:
  1. Leer o escuchar el libro El camino a Cristo o El camino a Cristo edición juvenil y enviar una respuesta de una página, enfocándose en los beneficios de tu lectura.
  2. Completa la Guía Devocional Series Encuentro I, “Cristo el Camino", o completar otro plan de lectura anual de la Biblia que cubra los cuatro evangelios. Además de leer el Deseado de todas la Gentes o el Héroe Humilde (Humble Hero).
  3. Hacer uno de los siguientes:
    1. Mantener una agenda devocional de por lo menos 4 semanas, resumiendo lo que has aprendido en tu tiempo devocional y describiendo cómo estás creciendo en tu fe.
    2. Completar los pasos del currículo al Discipulado Personal Espiritual.
    3. Obtenga el honor de Evangelismo de Conquistadores.
    4. Prepare un resumen de dos párrafos por cada una de las 28 Creencias Fundamentales.
    5. Desarrolle y presente cuatro de las siguientes creencias, haciendo uso de medios creativos si es posible.
      1. Creación
      2. La Experiencia de la Salvación
      3. Creciendo en Cristo
      4. El Remanente y su Misión
      5. Bautismo
      6. Ministerios y Dones Espirituales
      7. El Don de Profecía
      8. El Sábado
      9. El Ministerio de Cristo en el Santuario Celestial
      10. La segunda venida de Cristo
      11. Muerte y Resurrección
      12. Mejore el conocimiento de la Herencia de la Iglesia a través de uno de los siguientes:
        1. Obtener el Honor de Herencia Adventista.
        2. Leer un libro sobre el Ministerio Juvenil Adventista como:        i.        La Historia de los Conquistadores por Robert Holbrook.                                                                         ii.        Somos los Conquistadores Fuertes: Los Primeros Cincuenta Años por Willie Oliver con Patricia Humphrey​  iii.        Otro libro que sea aprobado por tu Director de Jóvenes, Conquistadores,  Aventureros, o Guías Mayores de la Conferencia/Misión.
  4. Leyendo un libro sobre el patrimonio de la iglesia como:
    1. Anticipando el Advenimiento por George Knight.
    2. Dilo al mundo por Mervyn Maxwell
    3. Portadores de luz del remanente por Richard W Schwarz y Floyd Greenleaf
    4. El Manual del patrimonio de la iglesia producido por el Departamento de Jóvenes de la Conferencia General.
    5. Otro libro que sea aprobado por tu supervisor de Guías Mayores de la Conferencia / Director de Ministerios Juveniles.
    6. Asistir a un seminario, o completar un trabajo de investigación de 2 páginas (mínimo) sobre un análisis de temperamento normal y completar el inventario de temperamento afiliado.
III. Desarrollo de Habilidades:
1.   Asistir y completar un seminario en cada uno de los diez 10 tópicos: (cada seminario debe ser al menos de 75 minutos de duración)

     LEAD 106 Cómo ser un Líder Cristiano y Habilidades de Liderazgo
     LEAD 213 Visión, Misión y Motivación
     CMME 100 Teoría de la Comunicación y Habilidades de Escuchar
     CMME 104 Prácticas de Comunicación Práctica
     EDUC 103 Entendiendo la Enseñanza y Estilos de Aprendizaje
     LEAD 160 Desarrollo de la Creatividad y Recursos
     RELI 112 Como Preparar Cultos Creativos Efectivos
     OUTR 200 Principios de Evangelismo de Niños y Jóvenes
     OUTR 100 Cómo Llevar un Niño a Cristo
     SPRT 105 Entendiendo tus Dones Espirituales

2.   Asistir a un seminario sobre Manejo de Riesgos en el contexto de los Aventureros y Conquistadores
3.   Asistir a un seminario sobre la Prevención del Abuso Infantil.
4.   Tener u obtener los siguientes honores:
     a.    Narración de Historias Cristianas
     b.    Habilidades de Acampar I-IV
     c.    Marchas Básicas
     d.    Nudos
5.    Obtener 2 honores adicionales que no se hayan obtenido antes: uno de la lista siguiente y un honor de habilidad de nivel 2 o más de una lista proporcionada por tu conferencia local.
    a.    Intervención en crisis
    b.    Nutrición
    c.    Banderas
6.    Tener un certificado vigente de Primeros Auxilios y RCP o su equivalente. (Instructor requerido)
7.    Supervisar a los participantes a través del currículo de Aventureros o Conquistadores, o enseñar una clase de escuela sabática para niños edades 6-15, o su equivalente por lo menos un año. (Candidatos menores de 18 años deben tener un supervisor adulto).

IV. Desarrollo del Niño:
  1. Leer o escuchar el libro la educación y enviar una respuesta de una sola página centrándose en los beneficios de la lectura.
  2. Leer o escuchar Orientación del Niño o mensajes para los jóvenes y enviar una respuesta de una sola página  centrándose en los beneficios de la lectura.
  3. Asistir a un seminario sobre el desarrollo infantil relativo a la edad de tu grupo de Ministerio.
  4. Observa por un período de dos (2) horas a un grupo de Aventureros o Conquistadores y escriba una reflexión sobre su interacción.
  5. Asistir a un seminario sobre la disciplina.

V. Desarrollo del Liderazgo:
1. Leer un libro actual sobre "Desarrollo de habilidades de liderazgo" como:
    a. Una Iglesia Positiva en un Mundo Negativo por John Arrias
    b. Asumir el Riesgo por Ben Carson
    c. Elena White sobre el liderazgo por Cindy Tutsh
    d. Ayuda! Me están siguiendo por Valleyn de Clinton
    e. Otro libro que sea aprobado por tu Director de Jóvenes, Conquistadores, Aventureros, o Guías Mayores de la Conferencia,
2. Demostrar tus habilidades de liderazgo haciendo lo siguiente:
    a.     Desarrolle y conduzca tres cultos creativos para niños y/o adolescentes.
    b.     Participar en un rol de liderazgo con su iglesia local con el grupo de niños/jóvenes en un evento patrocinado por la Conferencia.
    c.     Enseñar tres honores de Aventurero o dos honores de Conquistadores.
    d.     Asistir en la planificación y ser el líder en un paseo para un grupo de Aventureros, Conquistadores o clase de Escuela Sabática
    e.     Ser un miembro activo del personal de la Escuela Sabática, Aventureros o Conquistadores por lo menos un año y asistir a por lo menos el 75% de todas las reuniones de personal.
3. Escribir metas personales que le gustaría lograr en su ministerio.
4. Identificar tres metas actuales en tu vida, por lo menos una de ellas orientada espiritualmente, y una lista de tres metas y objetivos para cada una.

VI. Desarrollo de Estilo de Vida de Aptitud Física
1. Participar en un plan de aptitud física personal , completando uno de los siguientes:
2. Un programa de aptitud física personal de su elección y de acuerdo a sus habilidades, durante al menos tres meses.
3. Un programa de aptitud física de la escuela.
4. Los componentes físicos del Medallón de Plata JA. Si ya tiene el Medallón de Plata JA, entonces pase el Medallón de Oro JA.

VII. Confirmación de Completar los Requisitos
1. El plan de estudios de Guía Mayor debe completarse en no menos de un año y a un máximo de tres años.
2. Todos los candidatos de Guía Mayor debe documentar todo el trabajo en un portafolio.
3. La verificación de haber completado el currículo está bajo la supervisión del Director de Jóvenes, o Conquistadores o Aventureros, o Guías Mayores de la Conferencia. Libros y recursos para los instructores para Guías Mayores están disponibles de AdventSource.
