Stretcher Obstacle Course

Equipment
(to be furnished by the club)

  • 2 – wooden sturdy poles or sticks (approximately 5-6 feet long, 1 ½” diameter - Dowel rods suggested)
  • 1 large blanket OR 3-4 sweatshirts
Team

Five (5) or Six (6) Pathfinders
One will be injured person to be carried on the stretcher. The other four (4) members will assemble the stretcher and carry the injured person.

(Note: the injured person must be a Pathfinder, grades 5-12.)

Procedure

Pathfinders will lineup at starting line with equipment.
At starting signal, Pathfinders will assemble a trencher from material. One pathfinder will play the victim and be gently laid on the stretcher.
The remaining Pathfinders will pick up stretcher at four corners and proceed to carry stretcher through obstacle course.
If stretcher or victim is dropped Pathfinders should pick back up and continue.

Scoring

Event will be timed. All participants must stay in contact with stretcher throughout entire obstacle course.
Score will be the total time elapsed time from the starting signal until the end of the stretcher and the 5-member team is completely across the finish line.

Sweatshirt Method:  Gather three (3) sweatshirts. Invert the sleeves so the sleeves run on the inside of the garment before threading the poles. Line the 3 sweatshirts up in a row and begin to thread the right sleeves of the sweatshirts with the strongest end of your pole. Repeat the process with the left sleeves, beginning with the weakest end of the pole. This ensures better balance in terms of weight and strength.
