DRILL & MARCH

(Pathfinder Fair Event)

Drill Teams - Show your best marching moves and free style drill...!
Registration: All Drill Teams must register at club registration at the Fair.

Judging: The Pathfinder Club Drill Manual will be the standard by which all judging will be based. The judge’s final score will be the official score and no changes will be allowed. All scores are kept confidential until it is officially announced.

Awards: Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place categories. There may be more than one winner in each category.

Requirements: 
  1. All participants must be active members of a Pathfinder Club.
  2. Only one Drill Team is allowed to enter per club.
  3. The Class A Pathfinder and/or TLT uniform will be required to perform. Accessories may be added to the uniform for this performance (hats, gloves, braids, etc.) Uniform inspections will count as part of score and will be done before the team takes the floor.
  4. Drill Teams may be comprised of both Pathfinders and TLTs. No points will be taken off because of these uniform differences.
  5. Music will not be allowed in performance.
  6. Each participating Drill Team must perform the "Required Drill Commands". Performance of Free Style Drilling & Marching is encouraged.
  7. Teams will give 3 copies of the order of commands to the judges before taking floor.

*To Enter: 
On entering the floor, each Drill Master must state the following:
  • Drill Team name
  • Church name and city
  • Request permission to take the floor with hand salute to the Drill Commander.
After receiving permission to take the floor, the Drill Master is free to command his/her team to Fall-In. The teams must immediately Fall-In, in the center of the floor facing the judges and begin their routine, including the required drill commands.

To Exit: The Drill Master is to end performance with a hand salute to the Drill Commander and immediate dismissal of team.

Time:  Each Drill Team will be allotted up to 4 minutes maximum to perform.  Time on the floor begins when the Drill Master’s initial hand salute is returned. Time on the floor will end at the final salute.

Scoring:  There will be a total of 200 points total possible. 
  • Each command executed properly and in unison: 5 pts. possible
  • "Required Drill Commands" = 100 pts. Total possible
  • Additional Points will be given for the following categories: 
  1. Uniforms (15 pts.)
  2. General Appearance (10 pts.)
  3. Precision & Smartness of execution (25 pts.)
  4. Creativity & Complexity (25 pts.)
  5. Correct Alignment (20 pts.)
  6. Command Voice (5 pts.) 

Penalties: Time less than 2 1/2 minutes or over 3 minutes – 1 point for each 30 seconds. (Or decision of judges)
  Loss of points are as follows:  
  • Dancing (-10 through -15 pts, or possible disqualification)
  • Greek Steps (-5 through -10 pts)
  • All other infractions (-5 pts).

"Required Drill Commands":  Execute these commands in the sequence on *this list. (Following a sequence of commands helps the judges in scoring each Drill Team.)

The Drill Team should start and complete the "Required Drill Commands" in the center of the floor facing the judges. All Drill Team members must perform the "Required Drill Commands" 
*in the sequence below. After the "Required Drill Commands", additional fancy drill may be performed. The Drill Master is allowed to carry a card with the commands written on it. Teams will give three (3) copies of their order of commands to the judges before taking floor.

  1. *Drill Master Enters (to receive permission)
  2. Fall-In
  3. Dress Right Dress / Ready Front
  4. Present Arms / Order Arms
  5. Left Face
  6. About Face
  7. Right Face
  8. Parade Rest
  9. Attention
  10. Prayer Attention
  11. Left Face
  12. Forward March (or forward half step march)
  13. Rear March
  14. Eyes Right / Ready Front 
  15. Left Flank March
  16. Left Flank March
  17. Right Flank March
  18. Column Right March
  19. Column Left March
  20. Pathfinders Halt

KYTN Conference Pathfinder Uniform Regulations 
CLASS A UNIFORM: 
  • Black shoes, black socks, suntan shirt (short sleeve), and black pants or skirt, black belt with Pathfinder buckle, sash, yellow Pathfinder scarf with Pathfinder slide, full insignia in proper places.
  • Shoes should be black athletic-type (tennis) shoes or dress shoes. (No heels, sandals, wedges, open-toes or flip-flops)
  • Socks – If wearing a skirt or culottes, all socks in a club should be at the same length. (nylons acceptable for services in a church only, club decision)
  • Pants - dress-type slacks, plain; No jeans or cargo pants. No spandex, low-waist, or Capri’s. NO shiny material, NO studs or rhinestones. Culottes are permitted at the proper length. Both girls & boys are permitted to wear pants.  
  • Skirts –  A-line, straight or culotte, with a length in the knee area, plain; NO short skirts, NO ankle-length, mini or maxi, spandex, long slits, low waist (hip-hugger). NO shiny material.  
  • Hats – (Drill Team or Color Guard)
All drill teams or color guards must use Pathfinder Class A uniforms as basic dress.  Drill Master may add hats of various types, gloves, leggings, boots or other items to enhance the drill team's appearance.  Please stress the uniformity of the group.  These accessories are only to be worn while participating with drill team or color guard unless they are part of entire club’s uniform.
  • INSIGNIA PLACEMENT - Please consult the NAD Pathfinder Staff Manual addendum 2016 for placement of patches, etc. In addition, the left uniform sleeve should display the Conference patch and So. Union patch touching each other, and the world patch below, in that order from top to bottom. The right sleeve displays the club name crescent and the Pathfinder triangle patch. If you have any other questions, consult your Area Coordinator or Conference Coordinator. ​
